{I was reading today...}

 I was reading my homework for today and this quote stuck out in my mind when I came upon reading d and c 23 where is says to rejoice. This is my reading material that went along with this lesson and I loved it and thought I would share.

I believe he is saying to each of us, be happy. The gospel is a thing of joy. It provides us with a reason for gladness. Of course there are times of sorrow. Of course there are hours of concern and anxiety. We all worry. But the Lord has told us to lift our hearts and rejoice. I see so many people, including many women, who seem never to see the sunshine, but who constantly walk with storms under cloudy skies. Cultivate an attitude of happiness. Cultivate a spirit of optimism. Walk with faith, rejoicing in the beauties of nature, in the goodness of those you love, in the testimony which you carry in your heart concerning things divine. (Gordon B. Hinckley, Ensign, Nov. 1984, pp. 91-92; or Conference Report, Oct. 1984, p. 112.)

  1. At Women's Conference we learned the meaning behind the Hymn "Now Let Us Rejoice." At the time when it was written, the Saints had been persecuted, driven out of their homes, murdered, and were staining the snow with their bloody feet.

    This is my favorite verse:
    Now let us rejoice in the day of salvation.
    No longer as strangers on earth need we roam.
    Good tidings are sounding to us and each nation,
    And shortly the hour of redemption will come,
    When all that was promised, the Saints will be given,
    And none will molest them from morn until ev'n,
    And earth will appear as the garden of Eden,
    And Jesus will say to all Israel, "Come home."

  2. Thanks Bree for sharing that. I really appreciated it and am going to right it down and keep it somewhere that I can see it and remember to be happy and rejoice.
